WAWA, THE NEWEST AND LATEST AIRPORT VENUE TO JOIN THE NAPA TOUR

Luskville, Quebec (Dec 1 2011) Little did we know that back in 1995 when we went to a small town in Northern, Ontario (Earlton) to turn a airport into a drag strip, run a three day event and then take it down and come back home, that things would turn out the way they have.

Since that day in the mid-nineties we have done six different airport venues, all of which were successful while run under the "Show Me the Money Tour" banner. Last year marked the 12th. season that Elliot Lake and their airport have participated in the tour, and they do so very, very successfully to put it mildly. And now we are extremely pleased to add yet another Northern Ontario community to the airport list and too what is now called the "Napa Auto Parts Money Tour". Wawa, Ontario has officially joined the circuit and will host the third stop on the very rich and very popular racing series that has been going on since 1995. This is without a doubt, the furthest north we have ever gone but I can tell you that the facility in Wawa will not take a back seat to anyone, as someone built a dragstrip that they have been using as an airport, up until now.

Like my first visit to all of the airport towns over the years traveling to Wawa for the first time in my life was an experience in itself. Driving some of the most beautiful country you will ever see, in fact the final leg of the trip from Sault St Marie to Wawa is considered one of the top ten drives in Canada.

Meeting with the folks in Wawa was a total enjoyment and is what makes doing these airport venues so unique, they are excited, pumped up like no one else we ever deal with. The drag racing coming to these communities in the north is like an NHL hockey team stopping by to play a game. Lori Johnson who heads up the Drag Racing committee and is the Director of Community Services and Tourism, put it very clearly when she said "this is going to be a big deal for us'. Lori is not the only one excited about the event, as Mayor Linda Nowicki and Council announced on Oct. 6 that the Municipality of Wawa is 100% behind hosting a drag race event in Wawa in 2012. This decision comes after more than a year of research into other like events held in Northern Ontario and other parts of the province.

The event which will be held on August 10-11-12 will come with some very unique additions, like $1000. to win the Jr. Dragster event on Sunday August 12, as well as the richest Super Pro Purse in the history of drag racing in Canada. Further announcement surrounding the payouts will be made over the next little while, but make it very clear, coming in 16th will pay more money than many race tracks pay to win the class.

This will of course be on top of the already incredible $10,000 for first place prize money in Super Pro. The event will also see what has become a standard feature with all of the airport venues the very entertaining Jet Cars.

Wawa for many years has been famous for a number of things like gold mines, fishing, hunting and of course the largest Canada Goose in the world, will now be able to add NHRA Style Drag Racing to that list as well.

Make plans to join us in what is sure to be one of the most exciting events we have ever done, for more information on motels other attractions while there and the event itself please contact Lori Johnson  705-856-2244 ext 241 or  ljohnson@wawa.cc

JR. DRAGSTER COMPETITORS TO RUN FOR $1000. TO WIN AT WAWA EVENT: DEC 2/2011
There is no question that the Wawa Drag Racing committee is serious about making sure their event is a huge success and will be announcing a number of payout incentives to attract racers too their race Aug 10-11-12. One of those announcements which we are able to bring to everyone right now is the $1000. to win Jr. Dragster class. There is no question that this is something that does not happen every day for this class but has gone over very well with anyone who has heard the announcement. We certainly believe that this payout will bring the very best Jr. Dragster racers in the country to the Northern Ontario community that is staging a full blown drag race for the first time ever. Without doubt this payout will attract the best there is in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, but the hopes are that some of the Southern Ontario Jrs which there are many and many top runners as well will think about heading north. So too say that this is a race where the "Goose has Laid the Golden Egg" would be putting it mildly. There will also be a complete Jr. Dragster event on Saturday as well with regular race payouts for the Jrs. as a warm up for Sundays big pay day. For more information please contact Lori Johnson at ljohnson@wawa.cc
