PMRA Champion to be determined in final event at Grand Bend

Stawicki, Hawker, Latino lead Pro Modified finale
going into season-ending closer

GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (September 2, 2010) – Although he has only one win so far this season in the 2010 Pro Modified Racing Association tour, Mike Stawicki holds the lead in the PMRA Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport.

The Medina, NY driver of the G-Force Racing Cars 1968 Firebird has amassed 1044 points to date. Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario, is close behind with 1042 points with one win to his credit in his 1963 Corvette, while third is Eric Latino, and his 1938 Chevy Coupe. The Port Perry, Ontario driver, who won the season opener, has 1025 points.

Next is Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario with 962 points. Tied in fifth are Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, and Gary Irving of Toronto, Ontario, each with 984 points. Jack Brohman of Jarvis, Ontario is next with 949 points, followed by Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario with 947 points, Dave Earhart of Strathroy, Ontario with 923 points, and Mark Nielsen of Brantford, Ontario with 921 points.

The rain-delayed final round from the Stratford Day Spectacular meet at Grand Bend August 6-8 will be held this coming Labor Day weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex, which will determine a race winner when Stawicki and Sam Andreacchi are paired off, and will shake up the standings.

For the fifth and final event, if Stawicki makes a successful qualifying pass, then only he, Hawker, and Latino will be in the running for the title. If Stawicki qualifies number one or number two for this final event, he will have accumulated enough points to clinch the PMRA Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport.

So once again this year, the PMRA championship will not be determined until the last race of the season. This final event will be the Teamsters Union “Thunder by the Beach” at the Grand Bend Motorplex September 3-5.

The Teamsters Union “Thunder by the Beach” will feature the popular Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), www.PMRA.ca, and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca, featuring Top Dragster and Top Sportsman action with quick six and seven-second cars.

The first PMRA qualifying session is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday and round one of eliminations will take place Sunday, starting at 11:00 a.m.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, www.PMRA.ca, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its sixth year of operation in 2010. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

In 2010 the PMRA will compete at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario and the South-western Ontario track of the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with 2,500-horsepower-plus engines in supercharged, nitrous-powered, or turbocharged format.

Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 230 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".

Several of the PMRA events are run in conjunction with the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca, offering fans a great show of drag racing.
